Volunteer Positions

Volunteering

Whether you're looking to make a difference in the lives of people living with multiple sclerosis, an opportunity to enhance your resume, give back to your local community or keen to meet new people, the MS Melbourne Cycle + MS Half Marathon has a wide variety of fun and interesting volunteer positions for you to choose from.

No experience is necessary and we'd love for you to join this amazing cause with all of the other event volunteers who get involved every year.
All volunteer roles require an early start, some as early as 5am. We do try our best to meet your first preference position, however this is not always possible.

***A note about transport: as the MS Melbourne Cycle + MS Half Marathon is early on a Sunday, please check your transport options before applying as many services don’t run that early.

The MS Melbourne Cycle + MS Half Marathon has a volunteer role for everyone. Here are some of the opportunities available:

Course Marshal

Course marshals direct, encourage and cheer participants, advise of approaching hazards and form an important part of the communications network. This is a great role to do with a friend so why not get them to sign up with you!

Rest Site Volunteer

These roles are responsible for the set up and operation of a Rest Site which provides a rest area and water to participants so that they can cycle on thirst free! This is a great opportunity for groups wanting to volunteer together!

Event Village Volunteer

The event village will be home to the start and finish lines for the MS Melbourne Cycle rides and the MS Half Marathon runs. There will be plenty of roles available within the Event Village, including:

  • Cloakroom: Receive, store and return participants’ personal belongings.
  • Registration: Complete the registration process for participants who are not already registered. This role involves close attention to detail.
  • Bib Collection: Distribute pre-registered kits and complete bib replacement for those who don’t have their bib with them. This role involves close attention to detail.
  • Information: Provide general information to participants around the start and finish sites.
  • Merchandise: Assist with the sale of official MS Merchandise.

Logistics

  • Equipment crew/signage crew: Assisting with set up and pack down of equipment both in the event village, along the course or rest sites. This is a physically demanding role.
  • Volunteer deployment drivers: Responsible for driving a 12-seater bus of volunteers along a part of the course, you will work alongside the Sector Manager for this role.

Team Leader

Team Leader positions involve supervising a group and setting and packing up. It is essential that Team Leaders attend a training session and arrive early on event day. Some examples of Team Leader roles include Information Team Leader, Rest Site Manager or Sector Manager.

Pre-Event Assistance

The MS Events Team is always looking for assistance with pre-event activities such as kit packing and admin duties such as laminating, phone calls and other ad-hoc duties.
