volunteer positions

Whether you're looking to make a difference in the lives of people living with multiple sclerosis, an opportunity to enhance your resume, give back to your local community or keen to meet new people, the MS Melbourne Cycle + Half Marathon has a wide variety of fun and interesting volunteer positions for you to choose from.

No experience is necessary, and we'd love for you to join this amazing cause. Have a look at the volunteer opportunities we have available on the day, there is something for everyone!

The event takes place on a Sunday and most volunteers start at 5am.  Please note public transport does not run at this time on a Sunday.

Course Marshal

Located strategically along the route, course marshals direct, encourage and cheer on participants, advise of approaching hazards and form an important part of the communications network. Support is provided by a Sector Manager. Bring a chair, a water bottle and your enthusiasm! You need to encourage our participants to keep going and make it over the finish line!

Rest Site Volunteer

Keep our participants hydrated! The Rest Site volunteers are responsible for setting up and staffing water stations along the route. Filling cups and water bottles, providing encouragement and snacks! Bring a friend or two and remember to cheer on participants as they come past!

Event Village Volunteer

Our Event Village volunteers have many roles to choose from. We require support in areas such as merchandise, to participant registration and the kids space! There are a variety of roles on offer in the Event Village.

  • Cloakroom: Receive, store and return participants’ personal belongings. This role would suit those with good customer service skills, patience and organisation.
  • Registration and Bib Collection: Register participants on the day and distribute pre-registered kits. This role would suit those with good attention to detail, admin skills, communication and customer service skills.
  • Information: Provide general information to participants around the start and finish sites. This role would suit an outgoing person, good communication skills, patience and a great smile.
  • Merchandise: Assist with the sale of official MS Merchandise. This role would suit those with money handling experience, POS and customer service, good communication and attention to detail.
  • Team Photos: Assist the official photographer with managing teams having their photos taken.
  • Kids Space: Provide fun and entertainment in the kids zone (Please note this role requires a completed Working With Children Check)
  • Start and Finish Chute: Ensure our participants move through the start and finish chute safely and give them a cheer!
Volunteer Deployment Drivers

The person in this role is responsible for driving a 12-seater bus of volunteers and dropping them off along the course. You will work alongside the Sector Manager for this role. To be eligible for this role you must be over 25 and have a valid, open Australian drivers licence.

Equipment/Signage Crew

Our equipment and signage crew work with the MS Team, helping with set up and pack down requirements of a site or course signage, while also responding to operational requirements during the event. If available, pre and post event duties will include truck loading and site set up. This is a very active job and the work is physically demanding.

Pre-Event Assistance

The MS Events Team are always looking for volunteers to help with tasks such as entry kit packing, mail outs, admin duties and more! Please note this volunteering takes place during weekday business hours.

Team Leader

Would you like to be more involved in the operations of an event and improve your leadership skills? Try one of our Team Leader roles from supervising an area of the course, a rest site, or a marquee at the Start/Finish Village.
Being a Team Leader is a great way to improve your leadership and communication skills and will provide you with an insight to the operations of a large-scale fundraising event.
Team Leaders are responsible for supervising a team of volunteers, as well as ensuring a work area is set up/packed down and run smoothly.
All Team Leaders will be supported by a Volunteer Coordinator or Manager and will be sent all instructions pre event.
Please note that some Team Leader roles require a National Police Check
